Groupe Allard is an investment company founded in 2008, headquartered in Paris and chaired by Alexandre Allard. Its philosophy focuses on the acquisition and enhancement of places, companies and projects with strong cultural dimensions. Projects the group selects must take into account the cultural significance and appreciation of historical and architectural heritage. In 2009, the group established an office in São Paulo, Brazil, in order to focus its efforts on a unique property: the former Hospital Matarazzo, abandoned for over two decades.

Royal Monceau

Groupe Allard’s first foray in heritage building renewal started with the Royal Monceau in 2007. The beginning of the renovation process was celebrated with a Demolition Party: an artistic performance with worldwide repercussions, held in June of 2008.

The main goal was to renew and restore the essence of the emblematic hotel — its façades and interiors. To do so, Groupe Allard invited Philippe Starck to project its design components. He created exclusive tailor-made furniture, while Italian marble and high-quality luxury materials were used to breathe new life into its rooms, suites, restaurants and bars. A cinema equipped with the latest cutting edge technology was installed to host premiers and screenings.

Ever since it opened in 2010, the Palace became one of the top luxury and cultural destinations in Europe, the most sought after because of its restaurants, bars and spa. Royal Monceau received awards from several leisure and hotel guides, including Michelin and Condé Nast Traveler.

Hotel Particulier de Pourtalès, Paris

Groupe Allard was also in charge of the renovation of the Hotel Particulier de Pourtalès, an architectural gem hidden in the heart of Paris’ Golden Triangle. Built in the beginning of the 19th century, the Florentine-style building belonged to a family of avid collectors.

The six apartments it contains boast of the same level of luxury services offered by a palace-hotel, but each embodies a different atmosphere. From the Penthouse Suits where a Basquiat is dialogues with crystal design elements, to the charming Parisian historic suit with a mansard roof, the Hotel Particulier de Pourtalès is an emblematic building of Groupe Allard’s DNA.

Considered an icon in French elegance and sophistication, the designer label went through difficult times after Pierre Balmain’s death in 1982.

Groupe Allard has been a shareholder since 2009, investing and reinvigorating the brand as a starting point in the reinvention of true, authentic luxury.

Nowadays, Balmain is one of the brands that best represents the revitalization of French fashion. Its goal has been the same since its inception: “dressing women with the right clothes for the right moment”.

Faith Connexion

In 2009, Alexandre Allard bought the French ready-to-wear label Faith Connexion. With a new design team, the brand developed partnerships with American actress Annabelle Dexter Jones, in 2012, and Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana, in 2013.

From 2014 onwards, the brand expanded its creative team, launching a new men’s collection. It also launched a new economic model, Circle of Faith, which advocates for the balance of financial distribution between brands and their representatives, not to mention promoting new talents.

Today, the label is ready to change, to find new inspirations and renew its energies for the collections to come, without denying the glamorous spirit for which it has been known ever since its inception.

Faith Connexion is a label that represents the state of mind of Parisian design, it evokes new, contemporary luxury.

L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui

Inaugurated in 1930 by the architect, sculptor and designer André Bloc, AA magazine, as it is known as, soon became a daring, constructive and challenging statement. In its pages one can regard the main projects and most important movements in contemporary architectural thought.

Despite its legacy, AA was not immune from the crisis that affected the editorial market: in 2007, the magazine launched its last edition.

When Jean Nouvel informed Alexandre Allard of its demise, Allard took it upon himself to invest in the magazine’s revival. In 2009, the creation of a new writing committee had amongst its members Frank Gehry, Philippe Starck, Rudy Ricciotti and Winy Maas.

Thanks to the support and investment of Groupe Allard, the magazine surged with unexpected vitality and regained its importance in the editorial scene.

The Creative Invasion, Made by… Feito por Brasileiros

In 2014, for the first time in twenty years, the old Matarazzo Hospital opened its doors to a creative invasion. Idealized by Alexandre Allard and curated by Marc Pottier, about 100 artists occupied corridors and pavilions with artworks and performances.

Artists showcased included Tunga, Beatriz Milhazes, Vik Muniz, Xavier Veilhan, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Joana Vasconcelos, Laura Vinci & José Miguel Wisnik, Cinthia Marcelle, Douglas White, Dora Longo Bahia, Paulo Nimer Pjota, Rochelle Costi, Arne Quinze, Valter Lano, Artur Lescher, Maria Thereza Alves, Delphine Gigoux Martin, Sofia Borges, Daniel de Paula, Oskar Metsavaht, Maurício Dias & Walter Riedweg, Sonia Gomes, Jean-Luc Favéro, Elisa Pône, Nino Cais, Nuno Ramos, Henrique Oliveira, Iran do Espírito Santo, Janaína Tschäpe, Rodrigo Bueno, Julio Villani, Juraci Dórea, Lia Chaia, Daniel Senise, Studio Drift, Lucas Simões, Marcelo Jácome, Reginaldo Pereira, Francesca Woodman, Charlie Case, Marcia Xavier, Rivane Neuenschwander, Maria Nepomuceno, and Lygia Clark, amongst others.

The exhibition, which ran from September to October, gave the city’s cultural life a new landmark, allowing many paulistanos to return to the place where they were born. With the invasion of corridors, pavilions and gardens of the old Matarazzo Hospital, the future of Cidade Matarazzo commenced.

The book about the Creative Invasion is scheduled to be released by the beginning of 2017.
